With long-term use, a dummy can negatively impact your baby’s oral health by affecting the development and growth of the mouth and causing teeth alignment issues.

If you ask your dentist, they will advise the following:

- Use a dummy only at nap and sleep time

- Do not dip the dummy into sweet stuff

- Limit the use of the dummy once baby can coo and after they reach the age of one

- Wean baby off the dummy when they are two years old

“While dummies can certainly be helpful, parents should use them with the understanding that they are temporary, not a habit to be encouraged.”
